VOX World Music Jam - A Treat for the Senses

And what a treat it was. I was in the Orlando area over the weekend, and some friends invited me to hear some live music on Friday. Turns out it was our very own VOX World Music Jam at the House Blend Cafe. As a new resident to the City of Voices (I guess this is where some the VOX podcasts originate from), it was great to meet some fellow residents - Alex, Dean, David, Sam, to name a few.

The coffee and food were great - kudos to the HBC crew. But the atmosphere (complete with fire pits - cough, cough) and the music were really special. Jason Sharp (a guitarist and vocalist from California) and a group from Tennessee named Jettison Never.

Jason Sharp

Jason Sharp at VOX WMJ

Jason Sharp has some rich guitar styling, and some very deep lyrics. Very engaging with the crowd. He’s something like 18 or 19 years old, but seems mature beyond his years. Check him out at jasonsharpmusic.com. His CD “Unplugged” showcases his impressive talents (both on guitar and in songwriting), but seeing him live, I think he’s matured even beyond this 2005 recording. I’m looking out for some new stuff from him.

Jettison Never

Jettison Never is a power trio, with a full sound that took me back to the 80’s when I was in a garage band listening to Rush and The Police. These guys are also young (two brothers and a cousin), and really talented. A few of their songs reminded me of the Police and U2, but they have a style all of their own. Their voices meld together in an unforced harmony, and they sound like they’ve been playing together since birth. I had a chance to sit down and talk to Josh (guitar and lead vocals). I was impressed with his humility and grace.

Check them out at www.jettisonnever.com. Their EP “eye on the sky” has 5 really cool tracks. My favorites so far are “millions of faces” and “take it away”. But, I’ll be listening to them all a lot in the days and weeks to come.

In case you have not guessed, I had a great time. Thanks to Jason Sharp and Jettison Never, to the VOX crew (Alex, Dean, Dave, et al), and to House Blend Cafe for hosting a rocking good time.
